Embedded databases are an essential facet of our digital world, often invisible but fundamental to many of the devices and applications we use daily. This type of database is directly integrated into an application or device, operating invisibly to the end user and generally without the need for separate administration or maintenance.

The concept of embedded databases reflects the deep connection between application software and data persistence. The cohesion between an application and its underlying data store is so deep that the two become inseparable, forming a single, robust, and efficient information ecosystem. This close integration means the database and application can work in lockstep to deliver exceptionally high performance.

The importance of embedded databases is often underestimated. Its value comes not only from its performance and efficiency but also from its ability to facilitate the operation of complex systems. Many of the devices and services we consider indispensable, from cell phones and smart TVs to airline reservation systems and electronic healthcare, rely on embedded databases to function effectively.
